Akaka Falls is located on Hwy. 19 about 11 miles north of Hilo on the Big Island. The road to the falls turns off 19 between the 13 and 14 mile marker. Follow the signs to the falls - about 4 miles.
The Akaka Falls Loop Trail is a .4 mile loop and is fully paved which is good because it is considered a rain forest and gets a lot of rain. It is easy unless you have bad knees (there are a lot of steps). You can see both the Kahuna and Akaka Falls (422 feet high) along with beautiful lush plants and trees. There is a $5 per car charge to get in.
