Black Powder Pass Trail: This trail is located about 10 miles outside of Breckenridge. Take Boreas Pass Rd off Hwy. 9 just south of Breckenridge. The first 3 miles are paved; then there is 7 miles on dirt which is rough at times, but 4-wheel drive is not needed. At the summit, look for buildings left from when this road was built by the South Park Highline railroad.

Trail takes off from the summit of the road. It is out and back and approximately 3.5 miles if you go all the way to the top. Approximate elevation gain is 850 feet but it is gradual, getting steeper at the very top. I hiked this trail the middle of July and the wild flowers were amazing. There were quite a few people on the trail although the use may have been higher than usual because of the wild flowers.
