Convict Lake - This is one of the most photogenic lakes along Hwy. 395 in the eastern Sierras. It is several miles south of the Mammoth Lakes turnoff. If going south, you turn right on Convict Lake Road. It is paved all the way to the lake. While the lake itself is beautiful, the rugged mountains behind it are spectacular. Rarely do you see the many colors seen here which are caused by the folding of metamorphic rock eons ago.

There is a paved area around part of the lake, so it is suitable for wheelchairs. In fact, there is a wheelchair accessible fishing deck. There is a marina and you can rent kayaks and other small boats there. There is also a 3-mile trail around the lake. The Convict Lake Campground is near the lake although you cannot see it from most of the campsites.
