Fay Canyon Trail

Fay Canyon Trail – This hike leaves from a large parking area off Boynton Pass Rd. The trailhead is across the road from the parking lot. This is a lovely, easy hike and much of it is shaded. The basic hike is about 2.4 miles round trip with 150’ elevation gain. However, there are a couple offshoots that I recommend. There is a side trail to a large stone arch about ½ mile from trailhead. It goes off to the right of the main trail. It is hard to see the arch from the main trail, but it usually has a cairn where it turns off. You climb up the hill, and while the path is rough, it isn’t far and the arch is very special – both looking out through it and the details in the rock formations around it (see slides 7 – 12).

At the end of the trail you can keep going into the canyon if you scramble up the rock after you see the sign for “end of trail”. The views are great, and you can see as far as Courthouse Butte in the distance. The last few slides show views if you do this extra climb at the end. It is a short distance and not that difficult. The views are definitely worth it.
