Snowbird and Alta are small communities next to each other in Little Cottonwood Canyon in the Wasatch Range of the Rocky Mountains near Salt Lake County, Utah. Both Snowbird and Alta are best known for skiing but in the summer, you have access to many wonderful hikes. Wild flowers abound in late July, early August.
One of the most beautiful rock gardens I have ever seen is on Mt. Baldy. You have to take the gondola to the top and then hike up from there but it is relatively easy with incredible views of the surrounding area. The base in this area is around 8,000 feet and the gondola takes you to 10,000 feet so you have to be prepared for effects of high altitude. However the hikes themselves are not very difficult.
