Canyon Overlook Trail - This trail starts at the east entrance to the park where cars enter the tunnel that takes you into the valley. This trail is only 1 mile round trip with about 160' elevation gain so it is pretty easy but the ground is uneven and in a few places, you are on a board walk suspended from the side of the cliff. However the views are stunning and at the end, you overlook the entire valley. It is much the same view as you get from Observation Point but by driving to the top instead of hiking, it is much, much easier. I still think that the hike to Observation Point is the most beautiful trail I've been on in the park but it is tough and many people would not be able to do it. Note: there is a small parking lot right outside the tunnel but it is usually full. Most people end up parking along the road and walking down to the trailhead. |
