Discovery Trail: This is on the Stornetta Unit of the California Coastal National Monument. The trailhead is on Lighthouse Rd. shortly before you get to the lighthouse. Look for small parking area on the right with blue porta potty. Trail starts from there. This is about as easy of a trail as you can get as it is totally flat following the coastline. Having lived most of my life along the California coast, flat is very unusual. It is 5.2 miles out and back although I did not go to the end. The views of the ocean, the sea stacks and the lighthouse are wonderful. There are places where you can go down to the beach although the actual hike is on the bluff above the beach. I didn’t always stay on the trail but walked closer to the edge of the bluff. You have to go off trail a little to see arch shown in slides 15 -17. |
