Black Canyon of the Gunnison – This canyon in western Colorado is definitely worth a visit. The cliff walls are not black. The name comes from fact that the canyon is very narrow and deep so that sunlight rarely reaches much of it. The canyon walls are actually very colorful.
The first set of photos are taken from the top of the cliffs along the South Rim Drive. The second set are taken at the bottom of the cliffs along the river.
The South Rim entrance to the park is 7 miles north on CO Highway 347 from the intersection with U.S. Highway 50 east of Montrose.
