Kaena Point Hike - South Access - This is a 5-mile round trip hike along an old railroad track/jeep road. It is a level, easy hike but the road is terrible in places, even with 4-wheel drive. To get there, take the Farrington Hwy. on the west side of the island. Go north to the end of the road and park at the end of the paved road at Yokohama Bay Beach. The hike takes you to the westernmost tip of Oahu and ends at the Kaena Point Natural Area Reserve (home to breeding albatross in the winter months). This point is also accessible from North Shore. You are hiking along the coastline the whole way. Initially the cliffs of Kuaokala Ridge are on your right and they taper down to the point. There are many interesting rock formations along the way. I have done this hike twice and seen albatross and monk seals both times along with whales in January. |
