Lake Powell to Rainbow Bridge – You must take a boat to get to Rainbow Bridge National Monument. Boats depart from the Wahweap Marina at the Lake Powell Resort near Page, AZ. It is a 50-mile cruise to get to the disembarkation point. The view of the Lake Powell shoreline from the boat is spectacular. Most of the trip is on open water but as you approach the bridge, you go through some very narrow spots (see slide 12). Once you get off the boat, you take a short hike – usually a little over .5 miles – to Rainbow Bridge itself. The distance depends on the level of the lake. If it is very low, you have to hike further but it is an easy walk. Rainbow Bridge is one of the largest natural bridges in the world. Slide 20 shows some people under the bridge which gives you some idea of how large it really is. As you might guess, there is a substantial cost for this trip, but it is an all-day trip with incredible views the whole way. You won’t be disappointed. |
