Sahalie and Koosah Falls - This is a lovely easy hike through the woods along the McKenzie River. You start at the spectacular 100' Sahalie Falls and walk through the woods along the river, coming to the 70' Koosah Falls and then to the Carmen Reservoir. You cross the river there and go up the other side past both falls until you come to footbridge to return you to the starting point. The loop is 2.6 miles. A shorter hike is to just go to Koosah Falls (.5 miles) or to the reservoir (.9) miles and then return. September brings an abundance of mushrooms and fungi - beautiful and interesting. Warning for those with bad knees: while there is little elevation loss/gain on this hike, there are a lot of steps between Sahalie and the reservoir. Getting there: This is in Central Oregon on Hwy. 126; 5.2 miles south of the Hwy. 20 junction. There is parking area and bathrooms. |
