Snowbird/Alta - Snowbird and Alta are small communities next to each other in Little Cottonwood Canyon in the Wasatch Range about 15 miles south of Salt Lake City. Both Snowbird and Alta are best known for skiing but in the summer, you have access to many wonderful hikes. These towns are at 8,000 feet elevation and hikes generally go up from there so expect some heavy breathing. Two of the hikes leave from the top of the tram which is at 10,000 feet. Wild flowers are just amazing in July and August.
